Moreover, in the 10th Anniversary Festival of Alleyway Theater Company in 2013, the original Korean two-person play Raising the Sun in the Sky by playwright Kwon Tae was performed. He acted as the main lead poet Lee Sang. And, his work properly imprinted the name of Kim Joo-heon in the theater world, by winning the 11th Drama Festival Acting Award.

In the same year, Kim acted in a minor role in the feature film Way Back Home (2013). Subsequently, he appeared in The Con Artists (2014), The Accidental Detective (2015), Tazza: The Hidden Card (2015), A Violent Prosecutor (2016), Planck Constant (2015), and a box office film Train to Busan (2016). Also, he debuted in television with minor roles in the OCN drama series Squad 38.

Similarly, in the year 2020, he joined Season 2 of the SBS drama series Romantic Doctor Kim Sa Bu. And, his solid performance won Best Supporting Actor in the 2020 SBS Drama Awards.
